For some, firing up the grill is a year-round way of life, while most of us are just getting around to dusting off ours and enjoying a meal off the BBQ. Here is a recipe for The Ultimate Turkey Burger - a favourite item on the grill at the Kluge household.
INGREDIENTS:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1.5-2 cup chopped cooked bacon
1 cup chopped yellow onion - I just use one whole onion, chopped
2 lb. ground turkey 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
DIRECTIONS:
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium low.
If bacon has not yet been cooked, add bacon and sauté for 4-5 min or until fat has rendered and bacon is just beginning to crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove bacon from pan and set on a paper towel to drain. Discard bacon fat, leaving 1 tbsp in pan.
Add onion and sauté over low heat for 8 min, or until soft and lightly golden. Set aside to cool.
Combine Worcestershire sauce, Parmesan cheese, cooked bacon, cooked and sautéed onions, salt and pepper - stirring until combined.
Then add ground turkey, incorporating mixture nicely. Form into 6-8 (half-inch thick) patties.
Grill burgers on medium-high for 4 to 5 min per side, or until cooked through (165*F).
Serve with your family’s favourite toppings. (We like them plain, as is, but also with crisp lettuce, juicy tomato slices, and or mayonnaise. You won’t need to add any extra cheese, as there’s a great cheese flavour in the burger already. Enjoy!
Serving Size: 6 good-sized burgers (or 8 smaller burgers)
